Geraldton Gold Cup

Join Geraldton Turf Club for an action-packed day on Sunday the 7th of April 2024, plenty of entertainment, fun, food and shade.

There will be plenty of racing action with eight races and entertainment throughout the day including free entertainment for kids with pony rides, face painting and plenty more. Dress to impress in the Mitchell and Brown Fashions on the Field with amazing prizes up for grabs.

The Geraldton Turf Club plays host to Geraldton Racecourse, which is a scenic 4-hour drive from Perth up the Indian Ocean coast.

Founded in 1861, Geraldton Turf Club is the oldest Provincial Race Club in Western Australia. It was originally based in Meru, which hosted the first Geraldton Cup in 1887. The club moved to its current home at Utakarra in 1927, taking the original grandstand with them.

The grounds also hold great history to this day, with an old shed from the 1970s used as a temporary bar during the construction of the Sunseeker Hotel being relocated to the track once construction was completed. Known as “The Barn” this building has served as the public bar to this day.

Geraldton Racecourse has also been used to grow tomatoes and hosted harness racing meetings between 1995 and 2000. In 2001 and 2005, upgrades were made to the track and the facilities, including a new entrance, new administration building, jockeys’ rooms, race day stalls and mounting yards

In recent years with a race programme of 20 race days from September through to April, the Geraldton Turf Club has attracted strong fields and good numbers throughout the season.
