Ascot Racecourse in Western Australia is located 8 kilometres outside of the WA capital, Perth, and is the headquarters of the Perth Racing, which was formerly known as the Western Australian Racing Club. Ascot Racecourse is one of the premier tracks in Australia and along with Belmont Park, is one of the two leading tracks in Western Australia.

Racing at Ascot takes place during the spring, summer and early autumn months. Its summer carnival is highlighted by The Pinnacles, which consists of WA’s three Group 1 races; the Railway Stakes, Winterbottom Stakes and Northerly Stakes. This carnival welcomes many interstate runners who are backing up off the Victorian Spring Carnival, who are looking for more Black Type wins before their spell and tilt at the autumn carnival.

Its history dates back nearly 200 years, with the first race at Ascot in 1848. In 1852, Western Australian Racing Club was formed, which then hosted the official first meeting in 1853. The course has had several different changes, including the addition of a railway built in the 1880s next to the course in order to boost attendance numbers. Ascot is known nationally as the ‘Grand Old Lady’ of Australian racecourses, due to the heritage-listed buildings and well-presented gardens.
