Port Hedland Turf Club, which operates Port Hedland racecourse, is located over 1600km north of Perth. Situated within close proximity to the world’s largest bulk export tonnage port and with a backdrop of some of the longest trains, Port Hedland Turf Club has a larger-than-life persona.

Part of the Pilbara region, the Port Hedland Turf Club was established in 1902. During this time, aside from racing, the track has played host to camel racing, the Pilbara Show and at one stage, a golf course and airport.

The Port Hedland racecourse is a unique track, being one of a few dual surface tracks in Australia, with the track consisting of 1100m of hard pindan dirt leading onto 700m of grassed track, including the home straight.

The club holds six race meetings each season, with the season starting in May, culminating in the Port Hedland Ladies Day in July featuring Fashions on the Field, followed by the Port Hedland Cup Day in August. The Cup was originally only open to Pilbara bred horses prior to 1976, but in 1976, the club decided to open it to all horses to increase interest in the local area.

Today, the Port Hedland Turf Club welcomes patrons and tourists to the region to enjoy its racing season.
