Kalgoorlie Racecourse is located in the heart of the Goldfields, 600km east of Western Australia’s capital city, Perth. Known as a mining town, the green turf track is surrounded by the red dirt of the outback.

Kalgoorlie Racing Club’s first meeting was held in 1896, at a time when racing was held at a number of tracks in the region. This history forms the basis of Kalgoorlie’s “Racing Round”, with trainers originally travelling to tracks in Kalgoorlie, Coolgardie and Boulder during the season. Coolgardie Club officially held their first meeting at Kalgoorlie Racecourse in 1943, where they continue to hold their races to this day.

The Boulder Race Club held their meetings at Kalgoorlie during World War Two. However, it wasn’t until 1954 that the Boulder Race Club and Kalgoorlie Racing Club merged to form the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club, who is now responsible for Kalgoorlie Racecourse.

Today, Kalgoorlie Racecourse is one of WA’s iconic winter racing venues, the club hosting around 20 race meetings a year. The season commences in April and culminates with the Kalgoorlie Cup in September as part of ‘The Round’, where the club comes to live with colour and entertainment!
